Sometimes, it helps to take a step back from broader discussions on creativity to look at the truly fundamental elements of composition. Although there are countless elements of composition in art as a whole.

To me, compositional ability is a lot like natural athletic ability. The rules of a game or sport can be taught, but, at some level, the person has to have the physical ability and intangible talent to perform that sport
Afurada is a wonderful fishermen village just outside Porto which is still not damaged by tourism - A local fisherman arriving with the day´s catch.
Afurada is also home to a communal laundry - where the local washerwomen (lavadeiras) wash the family laundry in large tanks before leaving it to dry on lines strung out on the nearby beach. No matter when or where, someone is hanging outside a window laying out a clothesline of freshly laundered garments.

Composition can also be intangible. Sometimes a composition works, but you cannot explain why it works. The mind just likes what it sees in the overall framing of an image. On the contrary, there are times where you can point to a successful composition and know exactly why it works.
